SYDNEY TAYLOR (SA 1870-1952). Cape Dutch Homestead. Oil: 83 cm x 67.5 cm; with frame: 98 cm x 82.5 cm.
Studied Royal College of Art. Particularly well known for paintings of Cape Dutch homesteads. In 1917 he was referred to in Roworth’s essay ” Landscape Art in SA”. In 1924 included on British Empire Exhibition, Wembley Pres. of SASA. In 1930 - 32, 1937- 39, member of National Academy of Arts. In 1936 included in Empire Exhibition, Johannesburg. Taylor is represented in SA National Gallery, Cape Town and Durban Art Gallery.
